Heron Painting Process
This 30 second video demonstrates my sketching and painting process using Procreate. I often see these majestic Great Blue Herons along the coastlines, ponds and tidal flats on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada.
I start with a blue outline of the major shapes, like wings, beaks, crowns and feathers before I build out the painting in layers. I recorded the frog and bird sounds at a local pond one spring day. I guess the frogs were exited and the birds were happy.

Amazed with the natural world.
Do you remember your childhood when everything was amazing? These were the wonder years. Every butterfly, tadpole and bird were weird and wonderful creatures.
This painting is done in ink brush and watercolour, I start with a sketch and then ink the outlines, let it dry and erase the pencil outline, finally I apply the watercolour wash, starting with the lighter colours and then progressively add the darker ones.
